Our 1480 and 1482 have both been running 2 ears on 4 ear hubs for last 10 years without problems, but I worry a little every time I use them. I wish us both continued good luck

We ran our 1680 in wheat and milo for over 10 years with 2 ears on the 4 ear hub. Never had a problem. Our dealer says they have lots of machines in wheat country like that with no problems. However, we did replace the hub this year just to be safe because we also cut beans now. I suspect that corn and beans are a lot more risky than wheat when it comes to this issue. Good luck.

As long as the rotor doesn't vibrate, its ok. Case found out if you removed 2 of the 4 impellars that the capacity of the machine improved. I believe there is a service bulletin to this effect.

Yes, it is definatly ok to run with only 2 ears. All the machines that come into our shop only ever leave with 2 impeller blades. It will increase the speed that you can thrash. You should look into MARlINS IMPEllER BlADES. Not only do you run with only 2 ears, but they are cut back which will improve crop feeding, and there will be less wear in the transition cone. Check it out through lowens.
