Combines Is there any switch for weak finals on a 6620 SHIJIJ

Around here, there are likely more Sidehill combines than most areas. Before Deere adopted the 10 tooth pinion shaft. the finals were a nightmare. Since replacing the 11 tooth with the 10, not a problem. If you have repeated failures of the final drive, someone is doing something wrong. The new pinion and bull gear have worked out well for us. I assumeyou're speaking of the trunions as the cast mountings. These mountings were trouble only as a result of lack of lube. I always grease the pivots as another person rocks the combine side to side.

Hi longfellow! If you haven't heard of a broken trunion mounting, you are in another world. Had three go down near me in the last four years. Closest deere dealer has several of the now 900+$ castings on hand. They do break and are not strong enough. And lube happens in less than ten hours too, so that certainly is not the problem. final gears are not falling apart because someone "did something wrong". two rebuilds were in less than fifty hours of running and were completely covered by repair warranty of the dealer who did the first one. It was poor materials in the gears. If you haven't had this you will, drain your finals and see if something other than oil comes out. So I guess this is why I want to dump the whole setup for something I can glue under the thing that won't fall apart similar to the 9000 series finals which give no trouble and everyone constantly overloads them with a large bin extension (which I don't have at all). I really like this machine, it has been paid for about twelve out of the fourteen years I have owned it, and it is just about the right size for my op anyhow. Thanks for the reply. (ps- stay the he** out from under that thing while it is running and especially when someone else is at the controls.. you have everything to lose and nothing to gain.) GS

Now I am curious... Exactly what failedIJ Did a tooth break off the gearsIJ Just metal flaking off... ruining bearingsIJ Does the trunion break or just wear outIJ Did you add whopper hoppersIJIJIJ Are you dumping the combine in washoutsIJIJIJ There are more sidehill combines here than most areas, we really don't see the frequent failures you do.

longfellow.. as for the whopper hopper..read earlier post. washoutIJ what is that.. we are 100% terraced here. erosion is not an option. Trunion do not wear out. They are protected from wear by the composite bushing material and the added grease. Once again.. read earliest post- it broke. Casting sheared just outside of the mounting bolts. The gear material spalls out where the pinion contacts driven gear. This is the most common failure. When this stuff gets free, it contaminates the oil and tears out the bearings and the chain_sprokets if run to destruct-which happens a lot to first timers. After they drop dime once the oil gets a little more attention. Check it out. GS
