Combines it s got to quiet raining

Matt, we have been trying to salvage beans that have been under water. We farm in the Miss. River floodplain. The water got about half way up the stalk. The beans that were under water rotted so we are trying to cut the tops off without getting too many rotten beans in the hopper. The gumbo mud is awful. Ah, the challenges of farming. The city folks don't have a clue. As to the rain(it's raining right now in W. Tn.),it has quit every time but once.

Matt, this may work for you in your wheat sowing. Fly the wheat on with an airplane. When it rains the wheat will come up. Keep in mind that we need the weather we are having for this to work. Rain,warm nights,and warm days. I grow wheat hay and I spread the wheat and fertilizer into corn stalks and then cut the stalks with a bushhog. I sow 4 bu of wheat_acre. Have neighbors that fly the wheat into standing corn and soybeans, harvest crop and behold a wheat crop! Good luck and remember it will dry up and we will want to know when it will rain again!! Shelled standing corn Saturday and rutted the field so bad we couldn't cut the wheat if it was flown in. Had a lot of trouble turning around without a mud hog. This is getting serious since we feed everything we grow.Only have 10 acres of down corn left to do but the mud cakes up every where in the machine. If it don't dry up soon it will be lost. Maybe tonight is the last rain for a while!!!!!

just in case you don't have enuff we are sending down about 2" of liquid sunshine to ya. Should be there in a day or two. I think a 9_16" Mac satin finish washed away in the downpour, if you see it float by ship it back. One that floats or grows is worth keeping.

I'm from up in Southern VA. Having the same kinds of problem but making a little progress. Have cut all the beans that are 16% moisture and less. Waiting on the last late double crop soybeans to dry down. We just upgraded combines from a F3 2wd to a R52 with Mud Hog RWA. Made my Dad eat his words from two months ago. Quote "All these years with the F3 we never needed rear wheel assist, why do we need it nowIJ" Needless to say he got his answer.

We finished up in the bottom tonight. Good feeling. It's not fun cutting with water standing in the beans. Send your rain on down. The Obion River flows right past us.

I farm in north alabama and we have had a soakin rain every 3 days. We've cut a few beans that were over 20% moisture just cause they were starting to rott so bad, we got docked a $1.00 a bushel for that batch of beans. We farm some fields in no-til and some in convintienal land. years like this make u really appreciate ur no-til land for its ability to hold u up.
