Are you sure about the model numberIJ There was an SP 9 and an SP12 then SP120 and finally the 150 in these Case combines of the early 1950s. They were basically the current pull machines refitted as self propelled machines using Case tractor engines for power. There was also hillside models the 301 and 302 which were versions of the SP 120. The engines were mounted behind the header on the right side of the combine.

They sure look interesting you sit on the right with the bulk tank to your left to unload you had to get off the machine walk around the to the left hand side and pull lever to engage the system things sure have changed a lot since then

I don't think they were very popular. They were probably basically a good machine as JI Case had been building threshing machines for over a 100 years. But they were very odd and a bit crude. And the D series engine was only about 40 horsepower. Massey Harris then Massey Ferguson ruled the roost in the early days of self-propelled combines or until John Deere got their act together. The early IH SP machines were strange too. Case followed these combines with a better design but it was still not a big seller, and then they dropped everything but tractors in 1972. Case was slow to change and lost a lot of market share and then got a bone headed CEO that almost broke the company until they were bailed_bought out.
