Phoned my local police station one night in a panic, "you better come quick, I think there are two burglars in my workshop trying to steal tools," cop says "I'm sorry sir it's Saturday night and we've nobody available, they are all busy." I phoned back 5 minutes later "Its alright, they didn't get away I've shot them both with my shotgun." Within 5 minutes there where 3 armed response units at my yard with a helicopter hovering overhead. They caught the burglars. Cop says "I thought you said you shot themIJ" I said " I thought you said there was no one available!!!"

Sounds simular to our county sherrif department. They hold neighbor hood watch programs occasionaly with the main theme being Don't Call Us!. We'er told if you shoot someone make sure they are dead before you call us. Shoot them twice if you have to. Also if you witness a armed perpitrator to give them a hour head start before calling the sherrif dept. They don't want to show up while the villian is there.........they may be hurt. (deputies) It is truly a Barnny Fife operation. Only 1 officer on grave yard shift and 2 during the day. Our area is known as "little Chicago". Do you know what Illinois largest state park isIJ Wisconsin.

Big Truck, I've got another very similar story. Not farm related, but so much like what you went through, I just want to share. About 20 years ago, some really rough guys had been bullying a couple I knew. They had been given death threats and all. They called, I came to help, and was armed. We all had called the county mounties, but were told it was city jurisdiction. The city says it was county, so nobody would do anything about it. That's when I got really MAD and called the state police [highway patrols] and just told them firmly since the city and county was not interested in helping out, that they could just come out and pick up the bodies! By then, the attackers were on the property and some shots were fired, but nobody hurt. Suddenly, there were helicopters and a fleet of police cars. The crooks were caught and everyone was safe. It's too bad that so often it takes a radical action or threat to get our police motivated.
