Combines JD 4400 Transmission Questions

90W gear oil should do fine. There is a fill_level check plug on the rear of the trans case under the combine. I've used a piston type oil tube (can't think of its proper name) similiar to a grease gun in size. One of those 5 gal pail pumps with a hose would be alot easier. The final drives should have three plugs in them. 1 to fill nearest the top, 1 level check about halfway down and a drain plug. If I remember the drain plug is accually one of the bottom bolts holding the case halves together.

Red, Been reading up on your successes, if you are going to drive on road, make sure you transmission drive belts aren't dry rotted, the variable speed adjustment works and is properly lubed and last but not least, the brakes work. Good luck

Belts were all replaced in 1992 and look pretty darn good. I was warned about the brakes on the 4400 being inadequate from my farm neighbor. I probably will only run it home in 3rd. at about 10 mph. It can stay in the current lot all winter if I don't feel confidant about moving it. Appreciate all the help. Thanks!
