Combines JD 7720 TII has anyone used higher capacity chaffersIJ

silverdollar, I bought one from St John's welding for a 7720 II. At the time,(2001) the deal was that if I was unsatisfied I could send it back. So in it went, and I can say that I was extremely satisfied. Wouldn't go to the field without it. Good luck. Joeman

Thanks Joeman. It always helps to hear from someone that has had a positive exprience. St. Johns is the one I'm considering. Have you used any of his concaves or rebuilt rasp barsIJ He suggested not using a perfect circle concave with corn. What crops do you harvest with your combineIJ Silver Dollar

SD, I have installed St. John,s cyl bars in a 9510. (Not ours) I would say that they were a good set for the money. Every time I talked to St. John's they were real up front with me, didn't try to sell me something I would be unsatisfied with. I would definitely recomend their products. We are stictly corn soybeans here in central Il. Our current combine is a..well another brand. Sorry it took so long to reply, but I've been out of town. Joeman

Thanks for the reply. I did order rasp bars and a concave from St. Johns. Terry did seem to be a straight shooter. I'd be interested in the brand and model of your current combine. Are you happy with the decsion to switchIJ Someday I may do the same.

SD, The current combine here is a '96 R72 GlEANER. the 7720 II I put the chaffer in belonged to a customer of mine. I had fought the problem of grain loss and fm in the sample for some time before I found the fixed chaffer solved the problem. I don't know if farming is a hobby or working on combines is...can't manage to get one or the other to pay all the bills. So we didn't switch combines. Always had the gray ones, but did have a TR85 here as a second unit for a few years. I work on so many Deere combines because that is what is out here. We have no brand loyalties. We do have, however, dealership loyalties. I enjoy doing business with people I know and trust. Product support is far more important than brand and that always comes from your local dealer. When you're broke down and in need, the guy on the other end of the phone is not somebody in Moline or Hesston or Grand Island. He's the same guy that's helped me and others before, opened the store on Saturday, loaned a tractor for the community picnic, sponsored a local team...etc. So that's the only criteria we use when thinking about brands. So I don't know if I answered your question or not. Anyway have a safe one this fall. About where are youIJ Joeman

I'm from Claypool, IN. (North Central IN) We raise corn, soybeans and some hard red winter wheat. Crops are looking fair. We've had the wettest and coolest August on record. lots of diseases in the corn and soybeans. Some late planted corn in the muck needs to escape our normal frost date of 10_10 by a couple of weeks. Thanks for the reply, around here JD and Internationals are the most popular. Very, very few NH or Gleaners. A good and safe harvest to you too! P.S. Just today I was able to find a special airfoil chaffer for corn. It was designed by Terry of St. Johns to run 30% corn. The family he sold the machine equip. to has stopped making them. They're hard to find. I feel lucky to get one of the last ones. Terry said he might by the tooling back and start making them himself again.
