Combines jd flex on cih

I just put a 20 ft John Deere flex head on a 1660 this year. (No tracker, but plan to do it next year). There will be a few problems that you will run into. 1) Case puts there POT on the left side on the machine, and John Deere runs their controller on the right. So to compensate for this, all you have to do is switch two wires, just switch two and have some one spin the POT to see which way it will move the head, thank goodness for DC voltage. Also, on our JD head, it was set up for a 5 position dial-a-matic, so I had to make a convertor to go from the 1_2" shaft on the JD head, to the 1_4" shaft on the CASE POT. If you want, I can send you pictures of what I did, or probably make you one.

Yes ,it can work out quite nicely.I bought a Bish adapter kit which makes the hardware part easy. I did about the same thing that Harold did for the HHC. I clipped the wires for the IH pot. about halfway, and tied into the JD wires down on the right end,and then I did the same thing with the plug at the feeder house.Very simple to use several of the wires that are already in place.

We run a 224 on a 1480, and it works fine. Ours has the bigger reel, but no fore and aft. If you could ad that, and I don't see why not, it would be a reel plus. Most 200 and 900 parts are the same, as far as I know. Personally, I'd like to try a 25' 1020, as the 224 has feeding issues in green stem beans. Chads

Thanks for the feedback Chads. What kind of feeding issues does it have with the green stem beansIJ

Don't think you would be happy with a 1020 after the 224. We bought a 1660 this year with a 22.5 1020 on hills it just won't stay on the ground. Guy next to me does custom work his 9600 with a 930 flex no contour master stayed on the ground much better than me. Mine feeds ok early beans were very tough. Ben

At about dark, the beans just stand up in front of the auger, and then they want to feed in clumps, or if beans are real tough, they lay in the pan and feed in clumps. This year, we had to move the reel forward and down to get down beans, and it made it worse, I think fore and aft would help a lot, but not sure that it would totally solve the problem. I should also mention that beans were exceptionally tough this year, and some varieties were definately worse than others. Chads

You should use flight extensions in the centre were the feederhouse hooks on. I run a 900 series on my 2100 series combine, there is nothing better except maybe the new 600 series deere heads.

We do have the extensions. The center of the feederhouse is not the problem. It's simply uneven feeding into the auger in tough beans. I suppose that's why Deere introduced the full finger heads. However, I'm not prepared to pony up the $$$$ to go that far. Chads

There is a fellow named Roetman who will convertion your 1020 auger to full-fingers for a lot less than a new header.
