Combines JD vs IH Corn Heads

Pa, If your 1063 corn head does not have the waterpump type bearing in the stalk rolls it would be worth it to put them in. If it has the waterpump type bearing and you are still replacing bearings, somebody is not getting the shaft lined up right when the bearing is installed. Since I changed my corn head over to the waterpump type bearing I think I have replaced two of those bearings in probably 6 to 7 thoussnd acres. K.A.

I don't believe you'd be as favorably impressed by the stalk residue behind the Deere as you are behind the CIH.

We have an old 883 with the bushings in the front. Grease em twice a day. Have put this head over about 2000 acres since we got it and really no problems at all, except outside snouts tore up, which is really not a corn head problem. This head had been over a lOT of acres before we got it. We ran Deere heads before and I like the IH head much better. It runs flatter, the auger is slower and it doesn't throw near as much corn out. It also does a good job of chopping up the stalks. I think I would take a good hard look at the head and do some maintenance. Chads
