Combines JD8410T vs CAT 55 Challenger

Cat has better smoother ride but I like Deeres hydraulics and 3 pt. setup better. Cat has better track design and I feel a better motor. I drive a 8400 everyday and a 55 Cat sometimes. I'm green at heart but Cat is simply better by design.

bulldogger, cat 55 to a 8410, there is a lot of differences, The cat has a better undercarriage design, without getting indepth on it just look at them and compare. If you are going to rowcrop with it you will probably be out to 120 inches. The way cat gets there is to add spacers bolted into the hardbar(ie axle) compared to the deere that uses pretty much a rod with holes in it that you move, and the rod that runs from the front "axle" to the rear axle, all I can figure out is to keep it from twisting. The cat does have a flip up hood easy to get to, cat does make their own tracks deere doesnt, cat is a smoother ride, deere is welded solid so you feel everything, Cats drive system is superior, three point is heavier built. I will give deere the cab features, more glass finger tip hydraulics which are very nice, and cat uses that parking break handle but it is simple and it works. The cat cab comes from the same place NH get theirs for the Genesis tractors, it does have a nice powershift handle beefy something to grab on to which is nice, sidewinder console is nice, has a wider cab door opening, is a solid cab as you slam the door, both tractors have a terrific transmission, cats is a funk, who is owned by deere, both are smooth. Power wise all I can say is that I have never hurt for power in a 55. one thing that I can say is that the 55 was designed and built as a track tractor not an afterthought. Deere guys hope I didnt hurt your feelings but the cat sight isnt up yet. Sorry

I disagree to a small extent on the track design. The deere 8000 series T tractors are far easier to change gauge and track size. You can change gauge on a Deere in half the time tha you would need for a 35,45,55 Challenger. Bob

i can change both sides of my tractor in about 6 hours if i have air tools and a overhead hoist. once you have changed gauge you don't have to worry if your driver is lined up with the rest of the udercarriage on the cat. the udercarraige has one solid frame front to back, not two pieces like a deere. know of one 8400t south of me it took 1 whole day to get the alignment straightened out so it would run straight and true.

Hate to burst any ones bubble but the Cat Row Crop Challenger's are New Holland Row Crop Tractors with a Cat Engine and tracks.

I probably oversimplified. The Row Crop Challengers were manufactured in the New Holland factory for several years. There were various modifications done to the tractors to accomodate the track system. There is a lot of outsourcing done by all manufactures. I don't know that this really affects the whole picture.

whoa hate to burst YOUR bubble but that is not the truth. when the first narrow gauge came out that was the truth, till cat was breaking 3pts, having electrical problems, hydraulic problems, rear trumpet housings breaking. Since the row crop tractors have left the winnepeg nh plant, or wait, the buhler plant, they have not been the same. they have changed all of that. The rail unit is the same, the transmission is sourced from funk which is the same, and the cab is sourced from the same place, but could be said that the NH is a challenger with tires and a genesis engine.

BUT ! Around here we hear the oppisit ! guys who have had both say CAT started it and DEERE MADE IT BETTER! JUST lIKE EVERYTHING ElSE ! WHAT DO YOU WANT A BUllDOZER OR TRACTOR IJ AND YOU HAVE TOO THINK ABOUT RESAlE VAlUE! DEERE STIll WIll OUT SAlE ANYTHING ElSE EVEN A JUNK ONE !
