I was one of the replies to that original post as we have had the same problem. Surprised me as that several others had the same problem as we did, it appeared to me like we had an isolated incident. Everything mechanical has their weak spots, anybody that denies that is a fool.

On the subject of loosing oil, have a buddy with 88 R-50 that lost a gear box. There was a frost plug type thing on the upper rear inside of the gear box that was loose_out and dumping oil into the inside of the cage. Not visible unless the rotor is removed.

This would be a very slow leak and would likely be caught in time if level was checked as book suggests. Be sure to loctite core plugs in if you have removed.
