First of all SPEED is what cracks. Slow down the cylinder. Slowing the cylinder also decreases capacity which can be restored somewhat by removing the channels. One really needs to leave one on the door for stone protection. The channels can be replaced by half rounds which are gentler on the crop. We used to run all half rounds in position 1-3-5 and switch the half round on the door (easiest one to change) to a channel for wheat only.
