Run the cylinder up to the maximum speed. Take the guard and the chain off the speed adjust sprocket. Run a log chain over the main drive belt idler arm at the pulley and make a loop so that you can put a pry bar thru the chain to a place under the cleaning fan. When you pry down on the bar remove the belt from the idler pulley then let the pulley back up. This will give you room to work the cylinder drive belt around the main drive belt pulley. You do not have to take off the clutch linkage. The gas motor rated load rpm is 2400, high idle is 2480 to 2520 and low idle is 450 to 550. The diesel motor is 2300, 2370 to 2440 and 1150 to 1250.

The engine rpm info is for 1979 and up motors serial n 26201 and up. The gas motor is a Chevy 250 and the diesel is a A.C. 433T. The settings may or may not be the same on pre n26201 combines.

That is a 3 handed job, and when you open the cylinder clearances up, make sure to have both sides even. I like 5_8", 1-3-and-5 concaves in, run cylinder speed at 480-520, fan wide open. My K2 will waddle right along with an A330 head, and handles an A438 but complains.

we also drilled a hole in the cab rh side for a hook hole for a short chain. Raise the header hook the chain anround the cylinder idler arm and CAREFUllY lower the header a few inches and this along with your chain around the main idler arm method will eliminate any wrenching. That is if you install wing nuts on the shields. My grandad also came up with the idea of using a strap around the main idler arm and wrap it around the drive axle, then he would pull up a few feet which would pull down the main arm. As my late 'Pap' got up in years you can guess what happened one day as he forgot to remove the strap after a pulley change. I should live so long to make my kids life as interesting..

i made two small chains, one to use on the main idler and one to use on the axle, then used a cable hoist_puller to take tension off main belt. worked great.
