I will assume you are refering to the ground drive transmission. That shaft can be a "sweetheart" to get out. Start by removing left drive tire, then variable speed sheeves, the covers, and shields. I would not be surprised if clutch is bad as well, the shaft and sheeve hub are a mchined set. If worn replacement can be costly. If not replaced belts will not last. Be very careful when working with spring in "can".
