The only thing I have seen cause that is worn guards. If they are rounded off that will make the sickle pull harder.

I have also had a lot of trouble with breaking that belt. Finally put on a new shock absorber and this belt has lasted the longest ever.

If you were cutting green stem beans the sap from the stalks can buildup and gum up on the sickle and cause it become very hard to move. Then other drive problems start showing up.

The fella John W is correct about the sap causing high loads on the cutting system. Try to keep this build up down by occasionally pressure washing. Also if your sickle sections are worn it may help to replace them as this will cause them to use less force in cutting crop.
