Has anyone here kept a turkey for a pet? We are thinking about getting a turkey or two for our farm to keep as pets instead of raising them for meat. I hear that turkeys are pretty social birds, so I'm not sure I could ever get attached to them and then use them for meat.
We have a neighbor who has a couple of turkeys as pets. They seem pretty tame and well-behaved. We have chickens right now, but we may look into getting some turkeys in the future.
Yeah, never give a name to an animal you're going to eat. Especially if you have kids. Since turkeys are wild though, I wouldn't want to try and domesticate it. So no to the pet idea there.
