I have never seen 1.5" sections. What kind of guards do you have with thoseIJ Do they require twice as many holes in the sickle barIJ

We run the Crary Golden Cut, but from what everyone tells me, SCH is the only way to go. I would do it in a heartbeat if I needed to replace everything.

The guard has twice as meny teeth on them with no top, the hold down clip has two or four teeth and very rigid, the section have two or three teeth. I have used it on a used combine we got, in wheat , barley and safflower. It has work very good for use if the guards are sharp. You git twice the cutting speed.

The people I run with have two 1020's and for a few years one had 1 1_2" and the other one had 3". When cutting soybeans I honestly could not see any difference in the way the stubble was cut between the two until we went into the soybeans that were no-till drilled into standing corn stalks. Then the 3" cutter bar did a better job because the it could cut off any cornstalks that were sticking up. The 1 1_2" sections weren't spaced far enough apart to cut the stalks so an occasional stalk would be pushed along ahead of the cutter bar, knocking down a strip of beans for a few feet. Now both heads are 3".

Thanks guys ... decided to go with the 3". Found out that I have a 500 RPM pulley which should handle the 3" okay.
