Combines KNOCKING NOISE

Do you have crankcase blowby, a miss in the engine, anything like thatIJ Knocking noises in the CDC are not generally associated with the cooling system. Once in a great while, one will break a rocker arm or the rocker arm stanchion will come loose, but this would result in a steady misfire. A failed wrist pin bushing, very rare in these engines, will give you a knock that is worse on deceleration. The most common problem is piston ring carrier deterioration. look for too much smoke_vapor out of the crankcase blowby tube.

Thanks for the info wally. We were going to take the head off and take it to the shop and the engine totally locked up so we have something serious. The engine has 2200 easy hours on it.

OUCH---very sorry to hear that. Probably a spun rod bearing, but pray for a scored piston. I don't think I have seen two maybe three rod bearings damaged in 8.3l CDC engines since they were first released in Magnums in 1987. let us know what happened.
