Combines l to l2 major differences for small grains

l, l, and l3 were the Cadillacs of conventional combines when they were built. But just like Cadillacs, there were changes to the l series every few years to improve performance and operator comfort. I have had all of them including M series and was happy with every one. You might be better served by paying more attention to condition than to anything else. My sons favorite combine was the C2 because he got a kick out of watching me stick my hand through the little porthole to engage the separator. Moving up to the bigger machines was a big improvement for me.

Are you positive there are no adjustments for clearance or cyl. speedIJ Are you aware that on Gleaners, you raise_lower the cylinder vs adjusting the concave on other makesIJ I'm not at all familiar with the C2, but we had an A2 once that had these adjustments. You may want to take another look at it. Hope this post stays on here - seems mine have a way of "disappearing" the last couple of days! let us know what you find- Tom langan

Thanks fellows. What I meant was there is no adjustment of cylinder speed and there are not convaves in my C2.(There are rasp bars, like channel bars). There is adjustment for cylinder clearance, air intake for fans, and chaffer and sieve opening. I had some trouble with "broken" seeds and passing some heads through the machine. Also I would like to get a cleaner sample. I think I got a pretty good adjustment after I fiddled with it. My winter wheat seemed to thresh better, than my spring wheat. I did get a good article, n MF-2026, Harvesting Wheat, by Randal K. Taylor and Mark D Schrock, on combine adjustment,on the the web from the Cooperative Extension Service, Kansas State University,Manhattan) Anyway I appreciate the replys. Thanks again. P.S. Also looking to switch to Diesel fuel, it would simplify a few things for me also. Although the old engine still starts and runs well.
