first get the unloader pulley off the right side. usually lock both clutches up with dead engine to remove left handed threads of pulley. then take bearing holder nuts off left side and drive shaft out the left side. we normally replace all bearings on main clutch shaft at this time, guess we don't want the practice of removing the shaft in couple hundred hours. hopefully the variable speed just needs cleaning and grease and a new spring. if it has a snap ring holding it together, if it's together, then be prepared for a different shaft.
