You probably already know this, but there is a rate control adjustment on the hydralic pump, that has a lock nut on it, perhaps that has gotten loose.

l2s were made over many years and had a couple different header lift valves. No matter what year or valve design it will have a second stage poppet. Poppet slides one way or the other per pressure differential. Orfice plays a big part in this so you need to be sure it is clean and no broken piece of spring or rubber in it. Otherwise you have seen Tbran mention a few times hear that the seals for second stage poppet may be bad or missing or the seat for it may be loose and floating along with poppet. Good luck

Well, the head is lowering fine finally. We didn't really work on it until yesterday (10_20) because the combine was out in the middle of a feild and got an unexpected rain (10_16),so when it got dry enough we just ran it. We did find a o-ring missing behind the adjustable poppet and replaced it. The head lowered correctly once, then hardly moved at all. The seals on one lift cylinder started leaking, so we replaced them. Then we put in a used main poppet assembly and solenoid and adjusted the adjustable side poppet and it worked. Not sure exactly what fixed it but thanks for the help. The old Galvenized Grinder lives on ('82 l2) WOO HOO
