I just installed a St.Johns enclosed cylinder in our 1982 l2. We should start harvest here in NW OK in the next few days. I'll tell you what I think after I've ran it a little while.

I installed a St Johns enclosed cylinder several years ago in my l3. Best money you can spend on a l model. Increased capacity 20% to 25%.

Don't post much anymore, but need to mention that this cylinder threshes at slower RPM. MOG isn't torn up as badly and shoe load is reduced quite a bit, as well as returned grain since sieves can be opened wider. Also, larger pieces of MOG will float over walkers more easily and won't plug walker openings as readily.

OKfarmer I didn't realize there were so many nw okies in here. Im from about 25 north of fairview, and the wheat was really getting close until this cool spell. Well good luck with harvest.

Australia. 1970's. We are in small grains and our main problem at the time was walking grain out on the walker machines due to the characteristics of our straw. I would suggest, if you are game, that you cut out the flat sheet area on the back of the concave, which would normally be under the beater. Replace with a cell grate made from 3mm x 25mm [ 1_8 x 1" ] flat on edge across the concave on about 25mm [ 1" ] spacings. Reinforce these strips every 6" or so by rods welded north-south under the strips. The beater punches grain thru the cell grate onto the raddle underneath. We made filler bars to plug the cell grate if it did not work. We put the filler bars in for about 1 hour and promptly removed them. We went up about 15% in speed due to the reduction in walker losses. Sieves handled the extra load with no problems. Never used the filler bars again. Will not help if you are limited by the cylinder or sieves. Cheers!
