Early M2l2 did not have floating bin fill augers thus smaller bins. 78 was big change date then the full range variable cyl. came in at sn17501 in l2 19901 on M2's. This means cyl speeds from 400 to 1200 approx with no pulley changes. Just crank the lever in the cab. A real nice feature. As the years went by the strength and features improved little by little. M2 sn21901 and up and l2 19501-up had longer shoes, thus more capacity especially on hill sides. M2 came in 120 and 145 hp versions on the later ones. l2 came in 130 and 145 (301CI) and 158 hp -426CI engines. M2s had approx 39.5" cyl and l2's 48" cyl. l's had 5 straw walkers and m's 4. Most all parts are interchangable except the shafts as the l's were wider. Cabs were improved as the yrs. went by. Combines were built from first l in 72 (ouch another story for another lazy day) to first M in 73 then l2-M2's 77 to 86.. And thats the way it wuz....for now

I gotta remdediate my imperitive prose to non-rambling style. No the l was introduced in 72 and made til 77 in conjunction with little sis the M. Both were changed in 77 to the series 2. In 83 they were changed to the series 3 ie M3,l3 until the last ones were discontinued for the R40 - R50's which were rotory units that replaced the conventionals. The C62 was the latest re entry into the conventional market and was needed for increased capacity until this site changed the market! The C62 is a whale of a conventional combine and in certain conditions fits the customer to a C; but I digress....
