Yes it is possable to have a bad guage but i doubt it. it really sounds like the sender. be careful as there are 3 senders in the oil passages. one is for the light, one for the guage and one for the header. the new one will almost for sure look different than the old one. spend a dollar now and save later, get the factory guage and sender, they will outlast aftermarket almost always..........good luck vstk
