very unusual. the metal curtain is in only for grain control, not straw, The straw is supposed to remain in pneumatic suspention over the raddle and be blown onto the walker. Raising the curtin in corn in a small way acts as accelerator roller effect lessening hillside loss. What is the engine RPMIJ Should be above 2300, the belt slipping on the shoe drive can cause this. Check beaters and make sure they are in correctly and not spinning on shaft. Too high a cylinder clearance can cause this as well as the straw will not be crushed and thus too fluffy. Only other thing I can think of is a weird air control problem preventing straw from being blown on to walkers.

Are you refering to the steel plate(curtain)that hangs over the raddle under the grain binIJ This plate should be flat.Sometimes get curved by impact of corn cobs.Should be locked up for corn.
