The R40,50 - 52's are very close to what you are used to and believe it or not, have less moving parts. The simplicity means less time for certain repairs; more fun driving and listening to the radio in air cond comfort than wrenching in the heat. Watched one of our guys replace a cyl drive belt on a R50 in less than 5 minutes, no too shabby. But I do understand your dilema. Daffynition of Dilema; You rent a Chalet' atop of a montain retreat for a romantic weekend with your lovely wife. As you ease your car into the parking space after a winding dangerous uphill trek you notice the brake pedal hits the floor - your brakes are out. Undauted you pick up your bride - carry her into the house and run smack dab into your mother-in-law who holds out her hand and says " I am spending the week end with you and you have nothing to eat - give me the keys to the car so I can drive to the grocery" That , my friend , is a true dilema...

have been around both colors. Recently logged 2000 hours on a 1660 with no major breaks. most major was elephant ears on rotor. also been around R52 not really impressed with R52. We ran 20 foot header on 1660 and 18 on R52 both are good machines but the gleaner still has yet to prove itself to me. But I'm told it will this year and I'm gonna give it a trying chance. If not I'm gonna pull some strings and prove it wrong. But I'm here to say If you change colors you have to give it more than a year because you always have trouble the first year after a color change. And yes THEY All BREAK. It's just how fast can you fix it!

I know a guy that had an R 50 and he really liked it. The only problem that he had was with the shoe capacity. He claimed that he could run a bit more material through the machine than the shoe would save. This maybe could have just been an adjustment problem, or worn rolls. As far as total capacity, I have been told that a 1640 would be more comparable to an R 40. I have a neighbor that runs an l2 and a 1460 and they seem to run through the field at about the same speed. last, and maybe most inportant, take into consideration the distance to your dealer, thirty minutes is a lot closer than 4 or 5 hours. It was said before, THEY All BREAK!! Hope this helps, Darin
