Combines l2 to R72

In a lot of conditions a 30 ft R62 will harvest as much as the 30ft R72. 36 ft will make the 72 use more of the combine's horsepower_capacity.I don't think we would buy another 30ft for our conditions, however if you farm in muddy or hilly areas then the extra money for the 72 is justified.Again in our conditions the 72 harvested around double the last l3 we owned that worked with a 72. One thing is that it is very hard to choke the R72 in hard going.john

Thanks for the reply. Was thinking of a macdon 36' header. I harvest in mostly very flat ground with some rolling hills. Will harvest wheat and also proso. What would a good R 72 cost and what year is best to look forIJ

If you turn an R72 with a 36' draper head loose in 40 bu. wheat you had better have your grain handling ducks in a row. A class 7 machine will simply bury the system that kept your l2 going. Good luck with your decision. Ed in Montana

Price I'm not sure about, but I would not buy one older than a 95, they lengthened the shoe that year and went to the Cummins.

96 is the year you are thinking of. That is when the Cummins and the long shoe came about. The Duetz was a good engine. 98's and up had a lot of worthwile tweaks if you can afford that new of a machine. Kelly
