yes, and yes. I really like to install lapped filler bars when using the spike. leave them in all the time. In corn make sure the back two rows of spikes are in. These are in a plate. Then use either the std chaffer or the square end chaffer to handle the cobs. There is_was an open grate conversion to replace the back two row of spikes if needed in soybeans if over threshing occurs or if reduction in power is needed to propell the cyl. The capacity in corn is limited , depending on varieties, to the ability of the shoe to handle the load due to the extra cob break up over a rasp cyl. In soybeans _ easy to thresh wheat the spike is a monster. We actually did sell premium POPCORN one year with a spike! Ran cylinder slow as possible and cram'd it full. Unloaded at idle. The popcorn place bragged on the sample and ask what combine it came from. The customer told him "is there any combine like a green oneIJ" he smiled and paid the premium (if we had told him it was from a spike he would have rejected it no matter what the grade - old school type fellow - hey we didn't lie to him! )

Thanks for the info, it sounds like it should work ok, since it will be used mainly in soybeans with limited use in corn. Anymore tips would be great. THANKS AGAIN.

I have used spikes in an E Gleaner since 1964. We have dry edible beans, soybeans and grain. Have not used in corn. The spike has done a good job for me over the years. Watch your grain sample and adjust accordingly. Good luck with your Gleaner l3.
