Combines l3 Steering Valve SpoolIJ

last month we tried to buy a replacement spool for a directional control valve on a backhoe. The answer we got was probably the same one you got: hydraulic valve tolerances are too close to allow interchangeability of mating parts. My machining knowledge is limited but I know I couldnt turn a spool as tight as would be required in a hydraulic valve. Maybe you have a better lathe or grinder than we have. Good luck Tom in MN

Problem is...two of the spools need to be built up. If this spool is like most it will warp just enough to cause problems after TIG welding. As a last resort I will try it. Tolerance is no problem. I use a grinder attachment on the lathe to put it on the money. I am going to call around to some of the junk dealers. Know any with l model combinesIJ

Everybody else is gone for lunch so I can't ask about junkyards, but I know Worthington is always good. 800-316-7133 or www.parts-exp.com

Can't imagine a worn spool. Are you sure the spool is wornIJ You may just have noticed a carractoristic of the beast. The steering cylinder has unequal displacement on one side of piston to the other so steering will creep. A regenerative steering motor would help. Making machine steer easier by jacking rear end and greasing to get grease all the way around spindle and raising tire presure as much as possible may just improve situation enough so you will be happy. Good luck.
