Combines l3 vs 6620 Turbo

Corn and Soybean specials were equipped origionally with HD feeder beaters and slower speed sprockets than grain, walker screens and risers and corn screen. Grain machines could be ordered to CandS specs but the ability to order one n and get all you need was nice. l3 compares to 7720 or 8820. M3 vs 6620. l3 is built much heavier, on a wleded main frame w_ 200 bu tank. Easier to repair. i.e. look at the hydraulic pump areas on each. One can repair and run a l3 forever it seems as metal fatique doesn't let it break up and squat. l3's were nice, rugged dependable and rebuildable. Make sure it has the wide spaced cylinder bars or add them for max capactiy and lowest HP _ fuel usage.

I second what tbran says. The 3 series conventional Gleaners were extremely solid machines. The Gleaners of that era had more advanced features (electric hydraulics etc.)than the Deere. like I mentioned in a previous post Gleaner has always kept the harvesting part of the machine simple and efficient leaving more room to carry a larger bin so you don't have to unload as often. I have run a nice, well maintained 7720 Turbo for the last two years for the neighbor and I don't want to offend anyone but I find it to be underpowered and lacking in shoe capacity especially in corn on a side hill among other things. The Gleaner is also easier to work on. I gaurantee you which ever one you choose you will have to work on. In my opinion the Gleaner has allot less high wear parts and with an actual frame under the machine it will not shake itself apart. One thing to consider though is dealer support, we have a good JD dealer close and he almost always has the parts on hand. My Gleaner dealer who is a great guy but never sold many N series combines does not stock allot of parts for my machine (for obvious reasons) but never has a problem getting them in a few days. Both machines are good but if each one has had the same care and the price is similar the l3 is by far a better value. Just my opinion, Pete Hinrichsen

I would second what the others have said. I have a l3 and wouldn't trade it for any JD. They have a far more advanced and nicer set of controles, are much eiser to work on, and heiver constructed. Parts are eisily avalible and if the dealer doesn't have them AGCO is better on shipping next day to your house than Deere.

Those Deeres up to 1988 model year need 4 hands to operate, what a joke.

I couldn't agree with you more. Gleaner's are much more user friendly the Deere's.
