Combines l3 won t start

Despite the nick name, the memory is not quite good enough. I think the l series had a wire gauze filter on the fuel outlet inside of the fuel tank. This could block [ rarely ] with fine dust sucked thru the breather hole in the fuel cap. A tin can or a heavy rag tied over the fuel cap to stop dust getting into the tank or worse, blocking the breather hole was essential. I might be wrong on the filter but it is probably worth checking. Good luck!

try taking the fuel shutoff solenoid off and starting. usually not the problem, but maybe, of course thats a 400 dollar fix too! usually with the bosch pump it's time to see the service shop, also send injectors.

Try starting the engine with the fuel tank cover removed. If starting improves you could have a plugged vent hole in the cap. I destroyed 2 diesel pumps before discovering that little hole was plugged.

Have you checked the basics, like combine in neutral, hydro lever in neutral, etc.

Make sure your connections are all clean, test the batteries(13.4 volts) , by pass the relay and jumper to the starter to see if it will spin. If it does - Its not the starter - more likely the solenoid

Sounds like the solenoid, jumper directly to the starter if it turns - that's probably it. Make sure your connections are clean, batteries should test 13.4v

You may have to take the starter off and clean it up. Dust builds up on the inside over time. Also it is important to lube the starters on big motors. There are little cups that require oiling, otherwise the starter acts like it is seized up. Similar sort of thing happened on our l2 and Case tractor sometime ago. Since then, oiling each year with lite oil, no problem.

I found my problem. A rat had chewed through the wire comming out of the cab. It also got some of the wires for the head hight controle. Thanks

Mouse or rat damage is the problem more times than not. When you park your combine after harvest get into the habit of disconecting the battery ground wire. The last thing you need is a mouse or rat to chew a live wire and start a fire.
