Combines levelling combine

I think you would be happier if you adjusted the front axle instead of the rear. On a 1680 you can move the final drive housings down 3.5", which brings the front of the machine up. I assume that is also possible on a 1480. That will let your header raise up more, but it will also tip the cutterbar down because the feederhouse will be at a steeper angle. Something to think about anyway.

Some operators set their machines up this way to enable the cleaning shoe to be in more of an up hill position towards the rear of the machine. I quess maybe in certain conditions this can help keep the shoe loaded creating a cleaner sample in the tank. I have limited experience with seeing this done on red machines but on NH machines the top sieve can be raised or lowered in the back creating the same effect as would having the rear axle set in the tallest position or having larger tires on the machine. Thats my 2 cents worth.

Where the rear axle pivot bolts to the frame the bolts can be put in two sets of holes and the bolster can also be flipped upsided down for more adjustment if needed. Our 1460 sat like yours due to putting bigger back tires on it and we never readjusted it. If you have an operator's manual it covers adjusting the rear axle, I don't remember if we ran out of time or what but we never got around to resetting ours.

All the guys around here with red tell us to set ours up that way so it will clean better.
