Take the cylinder off the combine, remove the 90 degree hydraulic fitting, with the ram all of the way in start to pull it out while looking in the port. After pulling the ram out about 1_2" you will see a round snap ring. Find the end of the snap ring then take a screw driver and pry the ring off the ram while turning the ram. The ring can go forward or backwards. Once the ring is off you can pull the ram out. When putting the ring back on the ram have the ring on the outer side of the ram in the recessed area. Have fun putting the ring back in the groove as it will try to pop off the groove to the bottom of the tube.

SD-455 has good advice. When you move the snap ring forward, it goes into a deeper groove and lets the ram come out. When putting it back together, just move the ring back into the rear groove. When you look at the parts book for an l-2 its confusing. Here's a tip, when you have the head blocked up to remove the cylinder, after the hose is disconnected, turn the 90 degree fitting down into a 5 gallon bucket, unpin the front end of the ram and collapse it. I did that on the 2nd one and it worked a lot better. 'Course I was already soaked from the 1st one. I look at it as a learning experience. I don't know what thread size the hose is, but if you have a male plug it will help to prevent more oil leaking out while you are doing the rebuild. The rebuild kit from AGCO was around $26.00 each for the 3 inch cylinders. Also check the rams for any nicks or rough places and touch up with emery cloth. After I replaced the seal kits on the l-2, it would hold the 630 corn head up over night and I could raise up the ram lock and hook it without having to start it up and raise it off the safety. Good luck.
