Sorry I dont have an answer but I am wondering if all openings are the same width or are they wider in front.

The front 7 or so are closed down tighter and there is a break in the arm with a small rod joining the two, but all controlled by the same adjuster. Thank You, Dave

Went from a 98 to a 2002 R-62,Chaffer is like that on the 2002,the front needs to be opened up.Agco says its like that to push the air back farther, good in theory but it doesn't work.Front needs open and the rear needs closed.

Please help me , why does it have to be like that and can that be achieved by lengthening that short rod to the front sectionIJ Why does there have to be a section at the back opening seperatelyIJ

You can lengthen or drill another hole so it all opens the same. The back does not have to be separate. In some conditions it works better that way. Most of the clean grain drops threw the front 1_3 of the chaffer.

Thank You. I will lengthen the rod or drill another hole, whichever gives me the closest to the desired length. What is proper the same as the rest of the sieve or slightly larger. Dave

I would make it close to the same, unless you split it and use 2 control levers.

Heard in '96 when long shoe showed up that they were haveing complaints of short straw in sample. Before we ran our first one we blanked off first open area on chaffer per tech van suggestion. With that long shoe they put a castle shaped deadner just ahead of chaffer to dampen air to first few openings of chaffer. When we had chaffer out we bent them pieces of iron parralel with chaffer and heard of others taking it out. In '96 the chaffer opened the same all the way threw. Gleaner sped up fan for more air and installed angle iron to help prevent any straw from entering first open area of chaffer in a campaign for early machines. We never had any problem with shoe before or after in our crops. I have heard of enough benifits to fine tuning the short shoe with a adjustable front to think I will do sometime if needed.

Are you saying there is a piece I should take out to allow the air up through the opened up portion of the sieveIJ Dave

No I don't know it is necessary to take out for we never had any trouble and havn't heard of trouble anywhere lately. Just look at area just ahead of chaffer where air comes above sieve and you will see the air dam. You can bend up or remove or leave the way it is. Just don't know what is best in your case (maybe no difference once so ever).
