Combines looking at a new R65

We got a new R65 this year. It is an excellent machine. Makes night and day difference from the 62's. We like everything on it, and there are a lot of "little things" that make it nice. We also got a 8000 series head with an air reel. We traded off a 800 series, and this head cuts so much closer than our 800, I don't know if it is the SCH sickle, or the head itself, but it shaves right down to the ground. I guess I can't complain about either one.

Do you have larger drive tires on your R65 than you had on the 62IJ Reason I ask is we tilted our cutterbar way forward on our 800 mounted on an R52 this year (as per reccomended by tbran) and it made a world of difference in how close our head cuts. Wish we had done this back when we bought the head. Only problem we had was pushing a little dirt in the center of the cutterbar in soft ground. We tilted it back just slightly now and have found a happy medium. I'm wondering if larger drive tires would make your new head tilt farther forward giving you a closer cutIJ Tom langan

I doubt that they are taller. We had 30.5 x 32 on our 62, and now have 18.4 x 42 duals on the 65. However, we have a 14' tall machine shed and both have about the same clearance. That is about all I can tell you, other than we pushed a lot of dirt this year in beans. (8+ inches of rain right before bean combining.)
