Combines looking at a tr99

I have my second TR-99. I have 1500 seperator hours on it, so it has pretty well been thru the mill so to speak. Be sure it has the latest bubble up auger update. Depending on how many hours it has on it there ar several things to look for:1. it needs a stainless steel bottom under the grain tank auger.2. auger flighting on the graintank unloading auger at the u-joints wears thru.3.Clean grain elevator lower boot and door wear thru easily. Can be repaird, but replacement is better.4.Rotors-lugs wear off at about 800 hrs.rasp bars need replacing at about 1500 hours depending on what crops it has been used on. The rotor covers wear thru in front about the same time.5. Straw chopper serrated knives need to be turned around about 500 hours.6.Dealer should check all of these things plus be sure that there is "No" chopper, rotor, or unloading auger vibration. All in all the late TR-99's were the best TR-s ever built. My second one is truly the best I have ever had. The main reason they seem to have more wear is te fact that they have 295 hp. which is more than any earlier models. Capacity is greater too. The Genesis engine is the most fuel efficient engine of any I have ever had. The grain tank needs a Maurer flared extension to make it 300 bu. capacity. If you are going to use it for corn and beans be sure it has round bar concaveswith the concave extensions fastened on the concave not on the doors.Good luck! I'm sure you will love the "99" If you are going to put a grain platform on it be sure the platform auger has fingers in it all the way out to the ends.

I will second every thing that Don said and add that with a New Holland combine you will see that it has some things that maybe an option on other make combines that is standard on a TR. Things like a stone ejector(not a rock trap),Terain Tracer, and a hyd head-feeder reverser(lets you go foward or backward). You have a choice of concaves to match your crops. You will get some of the best looking grain with little damage with a TR. If you need to know more about one of these fine combines please ask here as we will help you in any way we can. I have a 2002 TR99(very last one ever built) that I purchased last year and have to say it is the best combine I have ever had. Good luck! Ilnewholland

We are looking at a 1999 model with 1300 sep hrs and we will be putting a new 974 30' macdon on it. It is a corn and soybean special, which is our 2 main crops. We do a little wheat and this is the first time in about 6 years we have milo. They claim it went through the shop last winter and has only 200 hrs on it since. The plan it to make the trip and look at it on Tues. Its about 6 hrs from us.

If corn and beans is your main crop then the round bar concave will work great. I haven't combined milo with the round bar but I would think it would work good also. I used to have a TR96 with square bar and rollers on the big wires for milo. You can do a small amount of wheat with a round bar but if you have to do a good job then you will need a wheat concave or a square bar one. Some people may put some kind of cover plate on the round bar also. If you can see what they did in the shop to it. They should have copies of bills or somethingIJ Is that McDon header the flex draper kindIJ I seen an CIH 36' one around here that cut soybeans and it looked to do a really good job. We have rolling land here and it cut as low as a flex header did. Where is this TR99 that you are looking atIJ Ilnewholland

The head is a draper flex, but it flex's in 10' sections. Here is the link to the mac don page. http:__www.macdon.com_products_draperheaders_974.html
