Combines looking to buy

We have a 1982 8820 that we bought in 1992 with 2200 hrs. It now has 3800 hrs. Total downtime in the field over 10 years has been less than 2 hours. Our 8820 had less downtime than the 9600 we used to have. I can also get a clean sample better than the 9600. Overall, the 8820 probably one of the best combines JD made. They have good capacity for a 23 year old conventional design and you can get a pretty good sample too. Note-We grow only wheat

The 77 and 8820 are both good combines - my opinion is that if you have a 6620 now, you would be able to use the headers you have on a 7720 and still be matched up well but if you went to the 88 you would have to run faster to keep the combine full to capacity or find larger headers to hang out front. Go with a Titan 2 if your are shopping also. Also, how many acres do you coverIJ what cropsIJ 95

I have a 1988 7720 Titan II. A mechanic once told me that the 7720 was a series that was very well balanced in power - size - capacity - durability, etc. It was sized well so you could keep it running at its full capacity under most all conditions. Unless you can keep it fed, it may be hard to keep the 8820 full. I ran a 6600, then 6620 then 7720 II on the same 22 foot straight head. Of course it all depends on you crops, how fast you want to combine and your average yields also. In my opinion...

I will be farming around 1800 acres next year. Mostly corn and soybeans. I have probably decided to just sell out my old combine equipment and buy new headers. Its been hard to get out my crop this year because of all of the rain we are having now. I still have 200 acres of corn and beans left. I am leaning towards the 8820 or a newer series 9500. Thanks more comments welcome

Maddog...how about an l2 instead of an M2..same combine as the M2 just more capacity. We've had l's and l2's since 1978 and once you run an l2 you will never go back to an M2. We have 2 '81 l2's one has the big engine and hydro with RWA the other is small engine belt drive. Both m_c's are always shedded. Both are great machines. We would be interested in selling either of them. let me know if you are interested.
