Thanks for the offer Dan. We have a 760 workshop manual which gives some clues but I am after some old fashioned tips and tricks from a practical perspective. Unfortunately it seems that no one has had the problem.

I haven't had problems with a loose beater drum. I did have the bearing on the left side go out. I found the easy way to handle the pulley, was to take off the screen behind the cab. (The one over the rotary air intake) Then I tied a rope to the pulley, ran it up through the opening, and through a pulley mounted to the rafter ot the shed.I then tied a 75lb weight to the other end to counterbalance the big cast pulley on the combine. With this set up I was able to remove , and reinstall the big pulley by myself. Joe With the weight

I have had the bearing on both sides go out at various times. some times there is play in the keyway in the big drive pulley. In my case a new key solved the problem. I use a small chain hoist and a short piece of channel iron to take the pulley down. Drill a hole in sheet metal above rotary screen. I replace the bearings with one with 10 balls in the bearing instead of the original that has 7 if I remember right. The bearing housing can also wear and the bearing won't be tight in the housing. If you do find that the shaft is bad in the rear beater and is loose it might not be to bad to get it out. If its tight do you have fire insurance. "grin"

I removed my rear beater shaft because of a worn keyway. If that is what you are going to do then I have so ideas that might help.
