Combines loss of corn off 1688 rotor

I have specialty rotor, large wire concaves, and keystock grates.

we have the same set up. I don't know what they call them , but on the rotor over the grates, we have straight bars about a foot long, i think 8 total. and our rotor speed at 450

as for our setting is large wire no wires pulled, all vanes in medium position, keystock grates, concave set at 4 to 5.

Same problem with my 2188. The only answer I get is to make sure returns aren't excessive and mine are not. I find if I slow my rotor down below 300 I can't clean it off the cob.This is a real problem. I have Gorden Bars and they move the crop through very quickly. My next step will be to change position of straight bars over grates. Check yours. MIne are at rear of the last grate, maybe should be at front grate, just in front of last concaveIJIJ Hope somebody comes up with a solution.

had the same problem on a 1480 with specitality rotor. finaly figured it out. set the concave at 1 to 1.5. there is just to much trash in there and it plugs up the holes in the wires. by settinng them this close, it cleans off the concaves and lets the grain fall through. have been having great results this year in 180 to 200 bu corn 18-24% have the rotor running around 300, sometimes more if it takes to much power, just kick it up to 400 or so. best grain sample i have ever had, seams like a whole different combine, and i have been fighting with this for 7 years.... and to finaly figure out there was such a simple solution.

One thing you can try is do a power shut down and see where the grain is trapped and coming down from rotor area. We have always fought this issue with the specialty rotor also. Seems if there is much shucks or stalks going through it traps the grain within the trash. I found that removing the rear gorden bars and placing rice lug bars on rear helps alot, (I am sure estes disrupters would also help) but if you want a real good corn machine put a standard rotor in it. We finally gave up fighting these same issues in our 2188 this season.

Rotor loss in specility rotors is caused by full corn shucks carring trapped kernals out. We here at Estes Mfg. Co. have addressed this problem for the last several seasons and have come up with a good solution. First install a full set of The Disrupter lugs in your grate section. Then install only 4 of the retarder bars (straight bars). Install two of the retarder bars over the last half of the last concave and over the first half of the first grate. The next two retarders should be installed over the center grate. Then install rice spike bars over the remaining spaces in the grate section. The tooth on the rice spike bar will come with in 1_8 inch of The Disrupter lug. This is where we get our cutting action. Chrome rice spike bars sell for $14.53 and The Disrupter kit sells for $359.
