Combines M question

I know nothing about tall fescue, but I have combined 80 bu wheat and oats with no problems. There was an earlier discussion (What The Problem) regarding feeder beater problems that you might read through. As I recall, some points mentioned were: improve feeding on the head, set feeder beater fingers per manual, use 38T sprocket on feeder beater, use 25T sprocket on cylinder, make sure feeder beater slip clutch is in good shape and set per manual. let us know if you have further questions. Your M should rip through any grass_grain crop. Tom in MN

The feeder beater will not be a problem when set up correctly ,,,, unless it receives a SlUGGING feed from the header conveyor. Read and post any questions.

When I got in for lunch there was a message on my machine from a guy who said something like this: hey knucklehead, the 25T sprocket is only for crops like soybeans where you run the cylinder at or near minimum speed. Another caution is the sprockets may be different for pre-1978 combines but I cant remember what they are any more. Tom in MN aka Knucklehead

Is your engine pulling downIJ Where is your feeder beater adjusted up or downIJ I would try the feeder beater in different settings and then I would try to get a more even feed into the feeder beater. I would also consider changing it's drive sprocket. If thats not the problem and your engine is pulling down I would consider rebuilding the pump. Our M2 runs at 2500-2600rpms we just had the pump rebuilt and it won't pull down for anything. I ran 6 rows of about 150bpa corn as fast as it would go in second and the only thing it did was throw some over the back. Then we tried to idle it down to 2300-2400 at about 2.5mph and it plugged the feeder beater right away. The only thing we could figure is that it wasn't moving fast enough. I know you said you were running fescue but I'm just triing to give ideas. We never had a ounce of trouble in beans with the header hose mod. Curt
