Run with the beater clear up,put a spring in every hole of the clutch,its either 6 or 8 springs,if the header bunches the beans run the reel as low and deep into the auger as possible.I had the same setup as you and the beater rarely plugged.

One more thing ,make sure the tolerance is correct on the clutch back,if not shim it with the special hardened washers.

well, I had two m2's and one would plug up and one would not, i traced it to the flighting extensions on the head, one head (bought new) never had them installed by the dealer, and the height of the beater. set the springs as instructed in the very complete discussion in the manual and set the height about about inch to one and one half inch. good luck James

We used to have same problem on our F-3, what a headache. After unplugging about twice in twenty feet I realized the problem and I had the solution all along in my pocket! I believe all it cost was 60 cents. Put 12 nickels behind springs. Now I know why my friends call me simple!!

You went the expensive route..we use pennies behind the springs on our l2's.

If cylinder bars are worn,they will NOT create the suck,needed to pull crop past feeder beater.

I think we had good crops that year. If it were this year I believe I would of used pennies also!

Reel sweeps (discussed below) will reduce slugs from the head, which is where your problem starts. I did install fingers in the blank holes when rebuilding my feeder beater but dont recall if it made any difference in plugging. Getting the head to feed better will do more than goosing the feeder beater.

I had the same problem with my 76 l this summer always plug up in wheat, not barley or oats only wheat. Did everything but put in new bars, found the problem to be the seal in the header that is adjustable up to the feeder house. it was not smooth but had a wa=ear rod if you will and the stiffer strawed wheat would hit it and hesitate and not feed over and plug. I mean we unplugged it maybe 30-40 times before we finally found it. If you run your hand underneath the header auger towards the feeder beater, if it catches on anything, i mean anything!!! fix it or smooth it sdown or it will not feed. I went form a crawl 1st gear all the way down on the hydro to open all the way fast on the hydro in good haevy strawed wheat. This was my experience.
