Combines MacDon 960 draper

We owned a 36' 960, and the only problem we had was a couple of bearings go out on the rollers. We also had a 30' mounted on a Westward (McDon) swather(windrower). After about 3 years we started having problems breaking the knife near the head. All guards had been replaced, and always a new knife, but it broke numerous times on heavy cutting on canola. After phoning McDon, they sent out a rep 300 miles....no questions asked. After close examination, it was discoverd that we were using the wrong guards near the knife head, which are differant than the rest of the cutter bar. Check to make sure that you have the proper guards on knife head end(usually 3-4 guards). Also put in new bearings on rollers right off the bat, and you won't have any problems at all during harvest.

I have a 36ft 960 on my 9610. I love it. Going to try it out on a 9750 this year. It is lighter built than the Deere draper. However, I have run it across 5000 acres so far and have only replaced knife blades once a year. Although it would be a good idea to change the 8 draper bearings every other year. It's prettty much trouble-free. Hope this helps

I am looking at a 36' 960 for my 9600. This one has a PU real. I see alot of headers on the net with two bat reals, why do they have two instead of just oneIJ Was the 960 available with two pu reals alsoIJ

Yes they were available with pickup reels. I believe they use two reels because it is much less stress on center tube. I have broken my 30 ft deere pickup reel before. Two reels seem like a great concept to me.Hope this helps.

I've seen a few Honeybee's from 15 to 30 ft . Not much dealer support on them out here yet.

I have run the same 960 macdon headers for 7 years - putting over 5000 acres on per year_per header. I have had very little trouble - the worst is wobble boxes which last about 2 years max. the next problem is hyd. motors-but not vey often. - I will buy Macdon header again

MacDons will not work with a bish adaptor. The way to go is get an adaptor for a IH. The canvas in the adaptor needs to be the same width of the feeder house. Contact Colby Ag Center, Colby KS (785 462 6132)if you have any questions, ask for Ted he has sold several Macdons. He has tried Bish with Macdon before.

Hop-along has it right. These headers come in two peices, the header itself and the combine adapter, which includes the spring suspension. The center belt is part of the combine adapter and must be the same width as the throat of the combine. A JD adapter has a center draper that is too wide for the IH, which also means the side drapers are too short. You'd be better off finding one that already had the IH adapter.

I think Yost Farm Supply of Goodland or ST Francis has a 36' with case 80 series adapter. 785-899-6565 is there phone. I second hop-a-long do not think bish adapter to be your answer.
