Combines MacDon flexdraper on 9600

I ran a 30' last year and figured out that the head did not flex as well if you pushed it all the way forward. I always pulled it back 1 number and felt like it did a better job. The only head we had this problem with was a 972 with a 871 adaptor. Maybe your springs are not set right. My first thought is they are to tight and are lifting the head up to far. Did you set up the head or the dealer. Check and see that the white bars between the springs and the head are lined up correctly. To do this the flex needs to be locked and the cutter bar about 6-10" off the ground. If they are out of wack then you need to look in the manual and reset them and the flex springs as well. Just curious why alot of fellas run macdon on JD combines, are they really that cost effective after adapting, Ive always been worried about dealer support for parts as well. Good luck sir.

is the float on your adaptor set right, so your head hits the ground before the adaptor had that problem on the plain heads.

Smooth feeding, less bean shatter=less loss, easier to set and run, less fuel used, No need for a contour feader house, larger head, Just a few things. My dealer support is 8 hrs away, we just keep a few extra things on the shelf like sickle heads, and whole sickles, full set of sickle sections and enough gaurds to do at least half the head. If I need something they either drop ship it or its out on the next UPS truck.

Thanks for the comments guys. The problem turned out to be my float optimizer was hanging up. Once we got it loosened up and adjusted better the head worked great. I'm amazed how smooth the soybeans flow through with this head. I'm running about 4 MPH with a 36' head. For comparison, my best friend is running a 9660 STS with a 30' head and can only go the same 4 MPH.

Are any of you guys running that bean saver bar over the sickleIJIJ seems like a number of beans hitting the canvas and rolling onto the ground on ours without optional bar.

I didnt mention before to the other fella, im running a deere 936 and I love it, I was just not real amused when a bud of mine told me to not mess with a deere draper and go macdon, my deere dealer is 15 minutes from here. Any way, Glad you got it goin. Good luck boys.

I don't see what the problem would be haveing a macdon dealer a ways away I mean heck anymore they can get you parts next day anyway..and there's only so much stuff to a head its not that costly to keep extray parts on the farm Also im really wanting to get a 36ft for our 2388 so i hope you guys are haveing good luck with them Any negatives yetIJIJIJIJIJ just curious

The learning curve takes a few days to get use to it, the initial cost, and the weight. And what are dealers any more anyway, all ours ever says is "we will have it in the morning".
