found this out 5 years ago and posted it on this site a couple ago, the response i got back wasn't the plus side. i guess it has to come from a credible source to be real. our dealer's been filling bearings for years.

yup, I remember but we have new viewers, Gleaner has had several bouts with vendors. Someone brought some to a dealer interface years ago and handed them to the parts gurus and said they were in sealed boxes and ask them to open them. One had almost no grease. As stated before if a bearing sits on a dealers shelf a year and is returned, goes to pierce packaging for repack then sits in the main warehouse it was possible for the brg to be 3 or 4 yrs old. Tighter controls are supposedly in place now. Trust but verify, pop the seal where possible.

Brands _ venders vary. Spec is 50% fill of lithium premium. We use 50% pack of high temp Agco grease after removing the old grease when we have to use a bearing we deem questionable. Have had no problems I know of. It is just like the new EP 0 corn head grease used in NI_Hesston disc mowers. Agco sells two different brands to maintain the origional fill. Tests have shown the same type grease from different vendors sometimes does not mix well.

What's your opinion of my dealers way of checking nut torque..First mark the location of the nut on the shaft, take a box end wrench with a 5lB hammer and beat the nut loose. Now beat the nut tight past the mark that you made on the shaft. This seems primitive and I'm wondering about damage to the bearing.

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 pound hammer. I think primative is about right but better than nothing. Trouble is it is a total guess on torque. I would rather put 200 pounds on the end of a 3 foot breaker bar for the 600ft.lb.systems and 200 pounds on end of 4 foot breaker bar for the 350ft.lb. systems. I wouldn't worry about bearing damage with your dealers method but I would check torque a little more accurately. Good luck
