Have an R-72 air cooled that was acting the same way. Put the new gov. springs in and it helped some, but still vibrated at high rpm's. After tearing up the drive belt and the idler, we had the injectors serviced, and found two bad injectors. Now it runs very smooth.

I'm betting your putting kit in without pulling pump. I would suggest to pull pump and have shop install rubber buffers and carfully set governer gaps. They should balance out the flows between cylinders which could help also. Be sure to blow out main drive clutchshaft pulley also for it can get out of balance if dust has settled uneven. I would imagine you have kept the intake and exhaust valves within specs. I have taken the time on one machine to make an extra good strong belt guide for belt just before it enters main PTO pulley to help prevent it from jumping a groove if engine flutters. Try avoid running RPMs where engine flutters untill new belt is polished in good and or flutter is eliminated. A new belt with the fresh rubber is not very forgiving when sujected to them conditions.

Dan, I second your motion to have a diesel shop do the work. My first R60 came from a guy who tried to adjust the pump himself. It didnt have the power to pull itself up a hill the first year I had it. And belts needed daily adjustment. After having the pump and injectors calibrated correctly I seldom look at any belts and the engine runs smoothly. Tom in MN
