When I changed mine I went back in the wiring harness a few feet to unhook it and slip the belt around it. Also, check your hydro belt, it may be close to replacement also while you have the engine belt off. I had one of those "spindle connectors" off one time, had a broken belt had torn it up and it was threaded, if I remember it was left hand thread(cant remember)my broken one was the header drive on the other side. Unhook the wiring back a couple feet. Good luck

That's a good idea to just follow the wires to disconnect. If he was to unplug right at the base of brushholder he could turn it off the shaft there. It does have normal threads. A big wrench will fit it but do not use big wrench to tighten it. They don't need to be much more than finger tight. A very important thing to do while installing any of these high speed belts is be sure idler pulley is running perfectly true with belt. Best to pick up the idler pivot bushings and bushing they pivot on when doing the job. Use a straight edge along side idler to see it clears belt the same all the way around. Crank over or start and recheck. A new soft rubbery high speed belt is not very forgiving when it comes to alignment. Warrentee will not apply. I hope it goes well for him.
