Combines massey 750 vs IH

I just went from a '80 750 to a 1680. I really wanted a 1660 but was at an auction that had this 1680 that went for too good a price. After using it on both corn and beans all I can say is Wow! You will love it. I never knew you could go so fast combining corn. Bean samples were almost as good - it just takes a whole different way of thinking when you go from conventional to rotary. I switched from and l2 Gleaner to a 1680 this year. Harvest has been a real joy. I was beginning to really hate harvest with my l2. At the end of the day I'm still as clean as when I went to the field. Crops around here have not been very good, but it does an excellent job of cleaning in some tough conditions. Wheat was very impressive, Soybean and Milo samples are the cleanest I've ever cut. The nice thing is that you can set them by the book and be pretty close to where you need to be. My l2 was always grinding stuff up. Servicing them is a snap also.

Made the switch back in 1994 from a 750 and a 860 to one 1987 CIH 1680. We needed to make quite a few adjustments to our grain handling abillities after that. Ended up getting a larger capacity grain cart and another semi. The older 1680 running a 8 row 36" head will easily shell 2000 to 2500 bushels of corn an hour so for us the limiting factor is how long it take the trucks to unload and return. A 1660 will easily replace your 750 and then some. You will find them a lot simpler to work on but it will wear out like anything with metal does (augers, bin bottoms, traps, ect.). There is also a learning curve going to a rotory, but believe me, this is a good thing. You will be very suprised how simple they are to run. It would be in your best interest to have a very good dealer get you into your first machine so you get one that is field ready and learn what to be watching for as far as wear points.

yes i to had a 750 an 1980. I help i buddy that has the same year 1460.The big thing i noticed was in tough bean straw.The 750 will eat circles around it.But if the steams are dead it will keep up easily.In corn with a six row narrow the 750 will runn faster.But the reliablity of the 1460 is great.Just gas grease and go.I was a massy man to but an Ih tractor man.
