In response to your questions about the 8570. 1. I purchased an 8570 last year that has done corn. It has every other wire removed and worked very well in small grains and soybeans. 2. As with any rotor they chew the straw up much more than a conventional. The St. Johns welding post may interest you as I looked at it last year when I thought I may need to drop straw but situation changed and I did not need the straw. 3. Yes it will run slow enough for corn. Be sure you have the slow down kit on for the straw chopper. If you leave the chopper in high speed it will destroy the chopper and damage the inside of the machine with the flying cobs. The previous owner of my machine did a lot of corn with it and was very satisfied. Be sure you have both plates for the left hand side of the rotor. A solid plate for grain and a sloted plate for corn and beans. The setting in the manual are relatively close. For grain I had to open the lower chaffer a little more than their initial settings and ran the rotor faster than the suggested speed. Those changes seemed to give me more capacity with the machine and a very clean sample. Same in beans. Good luck with your 8570, I have never been around such a simple to maintain combine as this one. The best day we had last year in wheat was 115A of swathed wheat that was running 70 bu_A, no grain carts and very little unloading on the go. Was a long day but very impressive with capacity. Only draw back I can think of is fuel tank will not run a long day for me. Have to look for fuel after about 9 to 10 hrs.

Jon, Thanks for the info. I will let you know how things go. It will be a month or so before it gets here. If I have questions after it arrives I hope that you don't mind me asking you a few more things. Thanks, Alan

We are in full harvest mode the next couple weeks so try me with e-mail rather than this forum. I will usually check the e-mails daily but not always here.

Just found another spot to check. Be sure the tightner pulleys for the belts off the crank shaft on right hand side of machine are in line with the main pulleys. Just destroyed a $150 belt in ten hours b;y not checking alignment of tightner pulleys. Had to get creative with shims and adjusting angle of mounting bracket to get the idler in line. Just a point to check before you get too far into the program.........

A few things that might help. Make sure the drive belts are tight. VERY tight. This way the belts do not jump so much when you engage the machine. I did not notice anymore belt wear. Try tightening the return drive belt if you have a problem there too. For better straw quality pull a few knives out of the rotor drum. We harvest barley, wheat, and oats and this helps. We have baled thousands of bales with 566 Jonh Deere and 8460 Case IH and no problems, just slower speeds. Get the fuel pump checked on the engine and make sure it has the return line to the crank case. This line is for the govenor and will be sluggish without it. We have an 8780 and 8570 and have had another 8570. Good machines with very little breakdown. Also you can get blanks for the concave where you pull the wires so you can go into small grain. We pulled the first 3 concave wires for peas. Hope this helps. email if you have more questions.
