Combines Mauer bin extension on a R 42

Hi Arrrgh! I have sort of the same question, since we installed the 18" Gleaner extension on our R42. Our books show the standard final drive for our R42, then the same final drive for the R52 as standard. But the book shows a heavy duty final drive if you have the longer auger and the 245 bushel bin. The R42 is 170 bushel bin, we added the 18" extension and gained another 70 or so bushels. I am pretty careful about fiiling it up with corn. The addition was to keep grain from roll of the sides on the terraces. But my question is our final drives in jeapordy with this big of extensionIJ Plus are you considering the Mauer extension on top of the Gleaner extensionIJ Thanks! Hope Harvest went well for you!

My limited knowledge I wouldn't worry about a 18" extension. Those s-28 finals are standard through 62 with a 225bu capacity. I have been looking at used combines. Some with those Mauer bin extensions. A 300bu extension on a 42 moves it up two class sizes. Are they designed for thatIJ

I am not sure, I have been worried that I have been pushing it with the 18" extentions at times with corn! So I guess my thought is what is the difference in empty combine weight, between the R42 and R62IJ So the Mauer extension you are wondering about goes in place of the Gleaner extensionsIJ Or on top of themIJ If it goes on in place of them. We would have 300-225=75 x 58lbs (avg) = 4350lbs. Difference in weight of the grain in the two grain tanks. We can then subtract the difference in the R42 and R62 empty weight from this, to get the added weight to the machine. The head would make a difference also. I would assume any engineer worth his degree would factor in a percentage that a user of the machine may go over specs to ensure a long usable life span of the product. We would need to find out what that "fudge factor" would be. I will check to see if there is anything in my books that I have on our R42 with this.

that's assuming our engineer did not go to the School of John Deere the Mauer sits on top of the tank, no other extensions OEM sales lit. says standard capacity for a 62 is 225 bu, 170 bu for the 42 3,300lb difference in base wt.between the 42 and 62

So we would be adding about a 1000 to 1100lbs more to the machine. Doesnt sound like that much of a difference. But you are right, It would be nice to know. And nice to know what the design capacity of the finals are. I am curious, there is a heavy duty final drive option listed in my book for the R52, but not for the R42. I was wondering what the difference was my self.
