Combines MF 300 combines

A neighbour bought a very clean MF300 with a soybean flex head, a 3 row corn head and a pickup head for under $1,000 Canadian dollars in Ontario Canada. The MF300 is a small combine with about 1_2 the capacity of a 500 series, and more flimsily built. As the much higher capacity 750 and 500 series are available at bargan basement prices, the desire to double and triple your harvest times with the MF300 are far less attractive. In comparison, I picked up a MF750 with a 15 ft. U2 reel flex head for $4,000 CDN. It is painful watching how long it takes my neighbour to combine with his MF300 in comparison.

There is a 860 Massey here in Texas that ran in the field 2 years ago, i think they would take 5000 maybe less, they are a dime a dozen down here.

One with a diesel and AC is unusual. I wouldn't pay more than $1,000 for it, even considering that. Particularly if it's only in "fair" condition. I don't think there were any SERIOUS problems with them. But I sure wouldn't want to have to depend on one anymore. They're just too old and too small. Where's the combine locatedIJ (In case you pass on it, someone else might be interested)

If you only had small acreage to do this combine would be perfect. We used to do approximately 150 acres of corn in the fall with ours 20 years ago. It was only a gas, the diesel model had much more staying power. Have several in our area, still working well, depending on how they were maintained. Combine is designed very simple, layed out identical to the larger machines and was produced for nearly 15 years. The MF 540 replaced it and used many of the same drive components - easy to work on, except for being small, and many parts still available. This machine is one of my favorites - big combine features, small combine value. As far as price, with heads and fair cond. - between $1500 to $3000 CDN. As far as problems, nothing serious comes to mind. Probably worked on almost every section on many machines over the course of time.

We just sold a late model 410 with two 44 corn heads, one 13 ft. grain table with Hiniker floating cutter bar, and unlimited access to a parts combine, two parts grain tables, and one parts corn head, $500 in Iowa. Good condition, part of the parts given away with the combine is new elevator chains, new feeder chains, and new unloading auger flighting. It had the 6 cylinder gas. So my guess is the 300 is a couple of hundred dollar combine.

Ran a couple 300s for many years. Check to see if the grain pan and shaker pan swing on rubber bushings or on ball bearings. You can see this very easily on the rear of the combine on the tail of the shaker shoe. Stay away from the earlier models with the ball bearing set up. They had a bunch of problems with shaker shafts breaking on this set up, the later ones with the rubber bushings never gave trouble. Also there is a difference in the beater shafts as well in the same serial number range. If it has the rubber hangers for the pans the shaft is updated as well. They are small but tough little buggers. Doc
